If you’ve ever nailed a perfect swing and thought, “That just felt right,” you were experiencing the magic of proprioception. Often referred to as our “sixth sense,” proprioception is your body’s ability to sense its position and movement in space. For golfers, this internal awareness is crucial — it allows you to control your swing, maintain balance through rotation, and make consistent contact with the ball.
When proprioception is sharp, your brain and body communicate more efficiently. This leads to smoother transitions, better club control, and improved posture throughout the swing — especially important during the backswing and follow-through. It also helps you adjust quickly to changes in terrain or body fatigue over a long game. Essentially, better proprioception means fewer compensations, more fluid motion, and a tighter short game.
Chiropractic care plays a powerful role in enhancing proprioceptive feedback by improving spinal alignment and nervous system function. When your body moves well, your brain maps it better — and that shows up on the green. Our chiropractors can also assist with golf-specific proprioceptive exercises! So if you’re looking to shave strokes off your game, consider working on your body’s built-in GPS: proprioception.
